My Chemical Romance (abbreviated as MCR) is an American rock band formed in 2001. They are my all-time favorite band and have been since I was 12 years old. Their music has had a profound impact on my life, providing comfort during difficult times. So I guess this shrine is my nod to them and how much they mean to me.
I found MCR by, funnily enough, loving The Smiths. I'd been listening to The Smiths for basically my entire life when I (think) I stumbled upon an article or recommendation that mentioned MCR as a similar band. Intrigued, I decided to give them a listen. I believe I listened to them before Danger Days came out. It's a bit hazy as the years have gone by, but I remember being immediately drawn to their sound and aesthetic.
So much so, I dinstinctly remember wanting to smoke to be like Frank Iero. When I moved up to high school, I fell in with a crowd who already smoked since they were 9! They got me hooked pretty easy and before you know it I was a full blown emo. Black eyeliner, dyed hair and a penchant for dramatic flair became my trademarks.
From there, my love for MCR only grew. I delved into their discography, learning about their history and the stories behind their songs (and reading some Frerard fanfiction). Each album felt like a new chapter in my life, with lyrics that resonated deeply with my own experiences. Their music became a soundtrack to my adolescence, helping me navigate the ups and downs of teenage life.
- This album is raw and unpolished, but it has a certain charm. It's a great introduction to the band's early sound.
- This album is hands down my favorite. It's raw, emotional, and captures the essence of youthful angst perfectly.
- This album is a rock opera masterpiece. The storytelling and theatricality are unmatched.
- This album is a departure from their earlier sound, but it's incredibly fun and vibrant.
